My passion for photography is inherited. As a hobby, my grandfather had a small darkroom in Iowa. He had some images published in magazines, and as the only amateur photographer in a three or four county area with his own darkroom, he was in demand.
My father owned and operated a small-town weekly newspaper in California's Central Valley from 1962 to 2003. He had to learn every aspect of his business.
Then came my turn. From 1986 through 2003 I ran the darkroom and supervised the photography side of the business. A semester-long class at a local junior college and a jump into digital photography opened up new creative aspects.
I enjoy the efforts to capture an image as well as the finished product itself: a slice of time or detail that wouldn't be seen in the normal hustle and bustle of life; nuances of color or texture; a vibrant display of Mother Nature's design -- I try to capture these things.
